Summer Shadows

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

On this HOT summer day, a shady spot out of the sun feels good. Add a breeze off the water and I’m comfortable, don’t forget an ice cold drink.

While enjoying myself I noticed the dark shadows around me in my garden and I thought about the different shapes and colors immersed inside the depth of the dark silhouettes. I could imagine the wonderful cool colors I could use to achieve those shadowy shapes.

These shadows have beautiful long sharp shapes that curve gently around the wooden post.

The shadows clinging to the flower pots are delicate like lace as the sun  shines high above.

Deep and dark is how I would paint the stunning contrast between the vivid greens of the grass and leaves  next to the graceful shapes of the shadows.

Swing and Shadows

Swing and Shadows

This picture shows the magnificence of shadows. They attach themselves to the space beneath the swing, casting long shadows which expand the from allowing the viewer to also see the ground around the swing itself. They allow the swing to be the focal point be adding the  dark depth behind it. They add texture by falling gently across the back of the swing.

I have found so many interesting images within my own property which I desire to paint. Take a look around your yard at different times of the day to really see how the lighting creates shadows. You don’t need to go far to find an ideal image to paint, so get out your paper and Paint with Me
