Day 1~Painting with David Daniels

David Daniels demonstrating his techniques

Day 1 and we’re busy working.

Today we worked on the composition part of planning a painting. David’s technique is to have us draw onto gray paper and then using only black and white paint we compose a value study. This is where we work out  any problems we might encounter before we  begin the actual painting. Although this step takes time and patience, it is well worth the effort.  Starting a painting using this process takes all the guess work out, allowing you to have fun while doing the art.

This is my photo reference

Here is my value study

Tomorrow I’ll start my 30X22 painting I have confidence in my pre planning so I know I will have a great time painting.
